TOUR
OF SOUTH COUNTY LIBRARY
April 19, 2012
Functions:
South County functions as both a full-service library
and a headquarters library that services five additional
branches in Roanoke County.
Project Duration:
The project began in October 2009 and was completed in
December 2011.
Concept:
South County is both library and community center. It's
not the quiet "book box"-type buildings most
of us grew up with. It is 53,892 sq.ft. and includes two
spacious meeting rooms for in-house programs and rental
space, a 203-seat auditorium, and a coffee shop operated
by Mill Mountain Coffee and Tea. It also has a quiet reading
room, two fireplaces, a children's area, outdoor plaza
with seating, and a teen center.
